The United States has imposed a visa ban on Ugandan election riggers.

The US government says it has imposed visa restrictions on some people as a result of their actions during the presidential election in Uganda in January 2021.
On Friday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that anyone who interfered with the democratic process during the last election would be barred from entering the country in the future.
“Interfering in the democratic process has repercussions. “We are imposing visa restrictions on those involved in undermining Ugandan democracy starting today,” he tweeted.

President Yoweri Museveni, who has ruled Uganda for nearly four decades, received 58 percent of the vote in January to win a sixth term in office.
Museveni’s main opponent was Robert Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, who came in second place with 35% of the vote and accused the election of being rigged.
The singer-turned-lawmaker refused to accept the outcome and took it to court, claiming victory. However, the 39-year-old later withdrew his petition, claiming that the system was rigged in Museveni’s favor.
Since then, civil rights organizations have condemned the election as unfree and unfair, accusing Museveni of using state security forces to arrest, harass, and victimize Bobi Wine and other opposition members.
