Stephen Smith, a US sports analyst, has apologized to the Nigerian basketball team for comments he made against the team earlier on his broadcast.

Stephen Anthony Smith, a prominent sports expert in America, has apologized to the Nigerian Basketball team for his degrading statements and actions against the players on the ESPN show ‘First Take.’ Stephen Smith, a co-commentator on ESPN’s ‘First Take’ with Max Kellerman and Molly Qerim, reacted angrily to the Nigerian basketball team’s victory over the American team. According to Smith, the United States should not lose against the Nigerian team in any way. He even mocked the names of the Nigerian players on the broadcast, which aired on Monday, July 12, 2021.

The viral video earned him a lot of flak from the basketball community, including authorities and players from the Nigerian basketball team. Stephen Smith, who previously made racist remarks about Asian Los Angeles star Shohei Ohtani, apologized to both the Nigerian Basketball team and the Asian player and his race following the attack. The Nigerian Basketball male team, widely known as the D’Tigers, stunned the USA team in a pre-Olympics friendly in Las Vegas, winning 90-87.
