As the Beninise court adjourns the hearing till Friday, Igboho returns to his cell.

Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba Nation activist, has been returned to Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou, Benin Republic. The Yoruba rights activist’s case has been deferred by the Cour d’Appel de Cotonou until Friday, July 23, 2021.

While attempting to board a trip to Germany, Igboho and his wife, Ropo, were detained at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport in Cotonou. The government lawyer did not speak to press after the hearing. Yomi Aliyu (SAN), gbho’s lawyer, indicated that “now is not the right moment to say anything on the subject.” He expressed confidence that things would work out well. The PUNCH previously reported that the DSS attempted to arrest Igboho on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on February 26, 2021, while the activist and his supporters were on their way to meet with Ayo Adebanjo, a 93-year-old Afenifere chieftain, but pandemonium broke out and the DSS was unable to apprehend him.

However, Igboho’s residence in the Soka district of Ibadan was raided by the Secret Police on 1 July 2021, at least 12 of its associates were arrested, and two other people killed during the bloody attack. Igboho escaped the raid and later the secret police declared that he wished, on the pretext of the Yoruba nation agitation, to store alleged armaments to destabilize Nigeria, but Igboho denied the allegation. However, on Monday evening at Cadjèhoun airport, the activist who went underground was apprehended by Interpol in Cotonou, Benin. The PUNCH has assembled many Sunday Igboho supporters to see the hearing in court. Some of the supporters who didn’t know the arrival in court of the Yoruba rights activist rushed to the courtroom to see him.
