David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, is a Grammy-nominated Nigerian musician. He says he would be overjoyed to win the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammy Award Ceremony this evening.
According to reports, one of the five songs nominated for the first-ever Best African Music Performance Grammy at the 66th Grammy Awards is Davido’s “Unavailable,” featuring Musa Keys.
Davido stated he will throw a big celebration if he wins the Best African Music Performance category in an interview with Billboard during the Pre-Grammy presentation.
He, however, stated that he would be happy for African regardless of whoever wins.
“I am just happy that we all get to shine. What if there was no [African] category? So, at the end of the day we should all be happy that we have this category, something to call our own. Whoever wins, it’s okay. If I win, we are celebrating. We go crazy,”
The leader of DMW, Burna Boy, Arooj Aftab, Silvana Estrada, Béla Fleck, Falu, and Gaurav Shah are all competing for the Best Global Music Performance award.
In addition, he would face off against Bokante, Susana Baca, Burna Boy, and Shakti for the Best Global Music Album title.
Tonight at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles is the Grammy Award Premiere Ceremony.
